Pound Family Chiropractic
If you have any questions about your condition or how our services or other specialists may be able to help, please ask questions. Sharing our knowledge and experience is the most rewarding part of our job.

Our chiropractic technique would fall under diversified technique but we have added several things over the last 15 years that we have learned from seminars, colleges, and mostly from you, the patient. Our philosophy is to do what works and every case is unique and different.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation
There are many cases where this works well to relax the muscles to help with the adjustment. Most people love how this feels and get relief from it.

If someone has never been to a chiropractor before, we are gentle and learn what your body needs and responds to best. Everyone needs and likes different techniques and intensity of adjustments. It is definitely not a "one size fits all situation".

Trigger Point injections
Many of those "knots" or muscle spasms you feel in you body are called trigger points. In some of the more stubborn cases, non-steroidal injections can be helpful in 'normalizing' the tissue to get better results with the rest of the treatment. These are not just pain shots that provide temporary results. These injections soften and relieve knots and spasms to provide longer lasting results.

Knee Injections
There is a new treatment for arthritis of the knees. A substance called Supartz is injected into the knee that "coats" the surfaces of the knee joint and restores the normal glide to the knee.

Shoulder Injections
Shoulder pain is very common and will continue to get worse if untreated. Compare how high you can raise your arm that has shoulder discomfort in it. Shoulder injections decrease pain, restore normal movement, and slows down the progression of any arthritis that is occurring in the joint.

Sacroiliac Injections
Many people point to a very specific spot in between the tailbone and the hip as "the spot" that is their major problem. The sacrum (tailbone) and ilium (pelvis) are suppose to glide but are often restricted. The injection decreases inflammation and helps restore normal movement and reduce pain.

Braces and Tens Unit
Most braces do not work or are used incorrectly and could make the problem worse. We use high quality low back braces that are the latest in technology, and teach our patients how and when to use them correctly. Tens units can be very helpful for temporary pain relief and spasm, and decrease the use of medications. Many insurance policies pay for these braces and tens units, so the patient can own them for home use.

Vascular Testing
Many pains, numbness, tingling, or coldness in arms or legs must be diagnosed properly for the safety of the patient. We use vascular testing in some cases to determine if the symptoms are nerve related, or if it is a different problem that we may have to refer to one of the many specialists we work with.

Chiropractors are well trained and educated. The Doctorate of Chiropractic degree is a 4 year program following 4 years of pre med studies. Doctors also complete internships and externships and pass state and national board exams before being certified. Chiropractors must meet stringent licensing requirements, follow a strict code of ethics and be approved by governmental agencies. Continuing education is required by all states. We consider it our duty to be informed of the most advanced, effective and safe methods of care, so our doctors and staff regularly attend continuing education classes to stay on the cutting edge of modern healthcare. Our clinical skills include: neuromuscular diagnosis, motion palpation, thompson and gonstead technique, sports injuries and auto injury rehabilitation. We take pride in our dedication to patient education. Once we've relieved your pain we provide you with the knowledge to prevent the condition from occurring again. Patients get well faster when they understand their condition and the recommendations of their health care professional.

Dr. Joe became interested in chiropractic as a professional water skier sidelined by sports injuries. With the help of chiropractic care he went on to regain his national title and continues to compete professionally around the world.

Dr. Joe Pound earned a Bachelor's Degree in Honors Psychology, graduating on the Dean's List from the University of Manitoba. He then studied pre-med at the University of Minnesota. He earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minnesota. He was recognized multiple times on the National Dean's List and was elected to Who's Who in American University and Colleges. He has received numerous scholarships and awards and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.

Dr. Pound has a strong research background with publications in scientific journals and has presented research at national conferences. He has recently been involved in research where Medical Doctors and Doctors of Chiropractic teamed up to test the effectiveness of various treatment techniques for patients with chronic neck pain, low back pain, muscle tension and migraine headaches.

Dr. Pound is a member of the Jaycees and the Rotary Club and is a graduate of the Leadership Hopkinsville Program. He has also taken leadership roles in the United Way, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Military Affairs Committee at the Chamber of Commerce.
