July 27th is Time to Remember, Honor Those Who Fought in Forgotten War

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OP-ED
By Representative Myron Dossett

July 27th is Time to Remember, Honor Those Who Fought in Forgotten War

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 24, 2014) The Korean War is sometimes referred to as Americas forgotten war but for those who served and their loved ones, it will never be forgotten. Kentucky saw more than 30,000 of its citizens serve in the conflict and on July 27, 2014, the Commonwealth will officially honor their service. It was with honor and great reverence that I sponsored House Bill 234, which marks July 27 as Korean War Armistice day.

The sacrifices American men and women made during the Korean War have led to South Korea becoming one of the fastest growing economies in the world and allowing Korean citizens to experience some of what Americans have experienced. Companies such as Samsung and Hyundai-Kia would not be in existence if not for American assistance during the Korean war.

Its important that we thank the men and women of the United States Armed Forces each day for the sacrifices they make for our nation. As we hear of the struggles that our veterans face with issues at VA hospitals we must do all we can to support all who serve or have served.

I would like to thank each member of the General Assembly and Governor Steve Beshear for their support for the creation of this day honoring our Korean War Veterans and I pledge to do all in my power to see that no veterans service is ever forgotten.
